# Create and publish a course

> Build a self-paced course from lessons, pages and blocks, publish it, share the learner link, and invite other AhaSlides users to help you build it.

A course is a self-paced learning path that people work through at their own speed. You build it from lessons, each lesson is made of pages, and each page is made of blocks such as text, images, video and knowledge checks. When it is ready, you publish it and share one link with your learners.

  This feature is currently rolling out and may not be available in your account yet.
</Note>

## Create a course

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a new course">
    Open **My files**, click **Create new** and choose **Course**. You can also click **Courses** under **My files** in the sidebar, then click **New course**. AhaSlides opens the course editor with a new course called **Untitled course**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name your course">
    Replace **Untitled course** with your own title and add a description if you want one. Learners see both on the course page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add lessons">
    Your new course already has a **First lesson**. Click **Add lesson** to add another; each new lesson starts as **Untitled lesson**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Organise your lessons

Lessons appear as a list in the order learners will take them. Hover over a lesson to see its controls.

1. To rename a lesson, click the pencil icon and type a new title.
2. To change the order, drag a lesson by its handle.
3. To delete a lesson, click the bin icon, then click **Delete** to confirm. Deleting a lesson deletes its content.
4. To write a lesson, click **Edit content** on its row, or click the lesson's title.

## Build a lesson with pages and blocks

Each lesson opens in its own editor. A lesson is a list of pages, shown in the **Pages** panel, and each page holds the blocks learners read and answer.

* **Pages:** click **Add page**, give it a title, and drag pages to reorder them. Deleting a page also deletes every block on it.
* **Blocks:** click **Add block**, then choose a family from the drawer or type in **Search blocks**. Each family offers different layouts.
* **Edit a block:** click it to change its content. You can duplicate, move or remove a block from its controls.

| Block family | What you can add |
| - | - |
| **Text** | Paragraphs and headings, including two-column text |
| **Statement** | Callout text in several styles |
| **Quote** | A quote, with or without an avatar or image |
| **List** | Bulleted, numbered or checkbox lists |
| **Image** | A single image, full width, with text, or with text on top |
| **Gallery** | A carousel or a grid of images |
| **Multimedia** | **Video**, **Audio**, **Attachment** and **Embed** |
| **Interactive** | **Reveal list**, **Flashcards**, **Sorting activity**, **Scenario**, **Labeled graphic**, **Cards** and **Button** |
| **Knowledge check** | **Multiple choice**, **Multiple response**, **Fill in the blank** and **Matching** |
| **Chart** | Bar, line or pie charts |
| **Divider** | A divider, spacer or numbered divider, and a **Continue** block |
| **Code** | Formatted code |

You can upload images from your device or paste an image link. For video, audio and attachments, paste a link instead: **YouTube, Vimeo or direct video URL** for video, an audio URL for audio, and a file URL for attachments. Give every image alt text so learners who can't see it still understand it, or mark it as a decorative image.

Your changes save as you work. The editor shows **Saved** when everything is up to date.

## Build a course with AI

Click **AI** in the top bar of the course editor to open the **AI course assistant**. Describe what you want, and it adds and edits lessons in the course you have open.

You can also start from a presentation you already have. In the presentation editor, click the presentation's name at the top and choose **Turn into a course**. AhaSlides creates a new draft course and the AI course assistant converts your slides into it. Check the result before you publish.

## Preview your course

Click **Preview** in the top bar to see the course the way learners will before you release it. Use **Back to editor** to carry on building.

## Publish and share your course

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check the course is ready">
    A course needs your own title (not **Untitled course**), at least one lesson, and some content in a lesson. If something is missing, **Publish** is greyed out and its tooltip tells you what to add.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Publish">
    Click **Publish**. A **Your course is live** window opens with the learner link, and the course shows a **Published** tag.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Share the link">
    Click **Copy** and send the link to your learners. They see **Start course**, then **Continue course** and **Review course** as they progress. **View as learner** opens the learner page in a new tab so you can check the result.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Share** stays greyed out until the course is published, because learners can't open an unpublished course. Once you have published, you can change the content at any time and learners see your changes without you publishing again.

To take a course down, click **Unpublish** and confirm. Learners can't open it until you publish again.

To see how learners are doing, click **Report**. It shows an **Overview**, results **By lesson**, and a **Learners** tab.

## Invite collaborators

You can invite other AhaSlides users to build or review your course. In the course editor, click **Invite**, enter one or more email addresses, choose **Can edit** or **Can view**, then click **Invite**. Only the course owner can invite or remove people.

Collaborators with **Can edit** can change the course. Collaborators with **Can view** can open and preview it, but cannot edit it. Invited people find the course under **Shared with me**. For the full steps, including changing or removing someone's access, see [Adding collaborators to a course](/features-and-functions/how-to-collaborate-on-presentations-and-folders).
