This slide type is now called the Type Answer slide. “Short Answer” and “Type Answer” are the same AhaSlides quiz slide — the name simply changed over time. For the complete, up-to-date walkthrough, see Using the Type Answer Slide.

What the Short Answer Slide Is

The Short Answer slide is an open quiz question with no options to choose from. Instead of picking, participants type their answer, which must match one of the answers you accept in order to score points. With no multiple choice to guess from, it’s a much truer test of what your audience actually knows than a Pick Answer slide.

Setting It Up at a Glance

1

Add a Type Answer slide

Create a new slide and select Type Answer (labelled Short Answer in older versions) from the Quiz section.
2

Add your question

Type the question you want participants to answer.
3

Set the correct answer to display

Add the main answer you accept and the only one shown when the timer is up.
4

Add other accepted answers

Add alternatives (including likely misspellings) that also score points.
5

Configure the rest of the slide

Set the time, points, and other settings as you would on any quiz slide.
Because participants type free text, the slide is eligible for the profanity filter. You can also manually accept answers after results are shown for responses you deem correct but that didn’t exactly match your list.
