If your learners already work in your own learning management system (LMS), you can export a course as a SCORM package and upload it there. The LMS then tracks each learner’s progress and completion.

Before you start

  • You must be the course owner. Collaborators can’t export.
  • The course must be published. A draft has nothing to export yet, and Publish to LMS stays greyed out.
  • Your LMS must accept SCORM 1.2 packages. Most do, including Moodle.
  • The package can hold up to 200 MB of media. If your course is larger, AhaSlides names the biggest files so you can shrink or remove them.

Export a course as a SCORM package

1

Open Publish to LMS

Open your published course in the editor and click Publish to LMS in the top bar. If your editor has a Publish menu, it is in that menu.
2

Choose the package type

Under Package type, pick Standard or Stays up to date. See Choose a package type.
3

Check what counts as done

Under Tracking, read the rules that mark a learner as complete. To change them, click Edit. See Choose how progress is reported.
4

Set how the LMS is told

Choose Completed or Passed under Report to the LMS as, then adjust the reporting controls you need.
5

Download the package

Click Download package. AhaSlides prepares a .zip file and downloads it. The panel confirms with Course exported successfully.
6

Upload it to your LMS

In your LMS, add a new SCORM activity or course and upload the .zip file as it is, without unzipping it. Menu names differ between systems, so check your LMS’s own SCORM guide for the exact steps. Then open the course as a learner to check it plays and records progress.

Choose a package type

Package type decides where the course content lives. With Stays up to date, republishing a course doesn’t change what learners in your LMS see. When you have published changes they don’t see yet, the panel says so and shows Update LMS package. Click it and confirm with Update. Learners get the new version the next time they open the course from the LMS, and their progress is kept. One update reaches every package you have uploaded for that course.

Choose how progress is reported

The Tracking section lists the completion rules from your course settings: All lessons finished, and Minimum correct answers or Minimum learning time if you turned them on. The LMS is told a learner is complete when all of them are met. With no rules set, a learner counts as complete after reaching the end of the course. Click Edit to change the rules; the package follows the saved rules. Report to the LMS as chooses the status the LMS shows for a learner who is complete. Until a learner meets the rules, the LMS shows them as Incomplete. If the course has a minimum correct answers rule, the LMS also gets the learner’s score, as the percentage of answered knowledge checks they got right. A learner the LMS already shows as complete is never moved back to incomplete.

Reporting controls

When Report results to AhaSlides is on, each learner’s LMS ID and results are sent to AhaSlides, and so is their name if Include learner names is on. Turn it off if you don’t want any learner data to leave your LMS.

What learners need

  • Knowledge-check answers are included in the package, so only upload it to an LMS you trust.
  • Videos and embeds that are links, rather than uploaded files, need internet access from inside the LMS.

Troubleshooting export

The course isn’t published yet. Publish it, then export again.
Make the largest files smaller or remove them. The message names them.
Turn off Report results to AhaSlides and download again. The package works, but sends no results to AhaSlides.
Try again in a few minutes.
