Drag and Drop is a scored quiz slide: write a sentence, turn the key words into blanks, and the room drags the right tiles into place from their phones. Use it for vocabulary, grammar and key facts, where choosing from a word bank is friendlier than typing.

Drag and Drop at a glance

Create a Drag and Drop slide

You don’t type underscores to make the gaps: write the full sentence first, then turn the words you want to hide into blanks.
1

Add the slide

Click New slide in the editor and pick Drag and Drop from the Quiz group.
2

Write your sentence

Type the full sentence into the Paragraph field, exactly as you want it read once the answers are revealed. The paragraph can be up to 300 characters.
3

Make the blanks

Select a word and click Make blank. Each blank becomes a tile the audience has to place, and its word is listed under Correct options. To add an empty blank, type [ ] where you want it, then fill in its answer. You can add up to 6 blanks, and every blank needs an answer.
4

Add decoy tiles

Under Incorrect options, click Add to create decoys: tiles that look like answers but fit no blank. They make guessing harder. You can add up to 8, and each option can be up to 40 characters. An option can’t repeat an existing one.
5

Tune points and timer

Set the points, countdown and speed bonus in the slide’s quiz settings, and turn on a leaderboard to rank players. Partial scoring has its own switch (see Drag and Drop settings).

Present a Drag and Drop slide

Click Preview to rehearse, then Present. Participants join at the access code on screen and see the sentence with its blanks and a shuffled set of tiles, real answers and decoys together. The order differs on each phone. On their phones, participants tap a tile and then a blank, or drag the tile straight into it. Tapping a placed tile sends it back to the options. Once every blank is filled, Submit becomes active. When time runs out, answers lock. Any tiles a participant has already placed are submitted automatically, even if some blanks are still empty, and those blanks score nothing. If you close submissions early from the presenter controls, the same happens. When answers are revealed, the presenter screen shows the completed sentence with the share of players who got each blank right, and a count of correct and incorrect players. Each phone shows which of that player’s blanks were right, with the correct answer for any they missed, and the leaderboard updates. Once players have answered, the slide is locked so scores stay fair. To edit it, open the slide’s three-dot menu in the slide list and choose Reset results, which clears that slide only.

Drag and Drop settings

Drag and Drop uses the same scoring controls as every AhaSlides quiz slide, found in the slide’s quiz settings, plus one of its own.

Ideas for using Drag and Drop

A word bank lets everyone play, including people who would freeze at an empty box. Here is a sentence you can borrow for each room:

Classroom and revision

Practise vocabulary, grammar or formulas with decoys that are near misses. “The first working AI program played ___ on computers in ___.” with a decoy like chess.

Training and onboarding

Check that process steps and policy details landed. “A refund must be approved within ___ business days by the ___ team.”

Events and conferences

Run a quick round a big audience can answer in a few taps, with no typing and no spelling to get wrong.

Fun and trivia

Song lyrics, famous quotes or movie taglines: blank out the key words and let the room finish the line.

Drag and Drop vs. Fill in the Blanks

Both slides blank out words in a sentence, and both are scored. They differ in how the audience answers. Choose Drag and Drop when you want a word bank and fast, typing-free answers. Choose Fill in the Blanks when you want to test whether players can recall the word themselves.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Drag and Drop slide scored?

Yes, always. Points and the leaderboard follow your quiz settings.

Do players need to fill every blank?

To press Submit, yes. If time runs out first, whatever they have placed is submitted and the empty blanks score nothing.

Does capitalisation matter?

No. A tile counts as right when its text matches the blank’s answer, ignoring capitals and extra spaces.

Why can’t I edit the slide during a session?

Once players have answered, the slide locks so scores stay fair. Use Reset results in the slide’s three-dot menu to clear that slide and edit it. Have a question?
