Escape Room turns your quiz questions into a race against the clock. Players search picture rooms on their phones for hidden clues, answer a multiple-choice question for each one, and open the Final Door to escape. It is unscored: nobody earns points, and the escape time is the ranking.

Escape Room at a glance

Create an Escape Room slide

A new slide starts with two empty rooms on the Classic concept. The Setup checklist at the top of the settings panel lists four steps, and Start unlocks when all four are done.
  1. Under Concepts, pick how the game looks. Classic keeps your presentation’s background and uses your own room images. Haunted Manor, Space Station, Ancient Temple, Christmas and Halloween come with ready-made room art, room names and a background. Click See all to browse them all.
  2. Under Rooms & clues, give each room a name and add its image. This is the picture players search, so choose a photo or illustration with clear things to tap, such as a desk, a bookshelf or a door. A concept supplies its own images.
  3. Click the room image to place a clue, then drag it, or use the arrow keys, to move it. Each clue needs a question, at least two answers and exactly one correct answer. A room opens the next one only when every clue in it is solved.
  4. Under The Final Door, type the Door Code: up to 6 digits, and no more digits than you have clues. In Standard mode AhaSlides picks which clues reveal each digit as a Code Piece. In Advanced mode you choose the clues yourself, and you can turn on Hide the order and add a Hint.
  5. Set the Time limit and check that Sound is how you want it.
To make a game that works well, put the easier clues first so every player gets an early win, and keep to the 15 clues in total so most players finish before time is up.

Run an Escape Room slide

When you present, the lobby shows who has joined. Press Start or Enter to open the first room for everyone, and the clock starts at that moment. On the presenter screen, each player’s name moves from room to room as they progress, with a Standings board and the countdown. The first escape is announced as it happens, and the Escaped board lists everyone who has made it out, fastest first. The round ends when time runs out, when everyone has escaped, or when you click End round (or press Shift+Enter). The result board lists who escaped and how fast, then who is Still trapped, closest first, and stays on the slide. When time runs out, players’ phones show Time’s up! and the presenter screen moves on to the result board. On their phones, players:
  1. Join with the code, choose a name and avatar, and wait for you to start.
  2. Tap the room picture to find hidden clues, and tap Solve clue after choosing an answer. A wrong answer means a wait of about 5 seconds before they can try again.
  3. Collect a Code Piece from some clues. The Code chart on their phone shows which digit each shape means.
  4. Clear every clue in a room to move to the next one, with a door-opening animation between rooms.
  5. Decode the pieces and type the Door Code at the Final Door. A wrong code means a short wait before the next try.
Progress is kept if a player refreshes the page or switches device. If you stop presenting or move to another slide mid-round, the round is cancelled and the slide returns to the lobby.

Ideas for using Escape Room

  • Training and onboarding: one room per stage of a process, with a clue asking what comes next. New starters learn the process while racing to finish it.
  • Classroom revision: one room per topic, with a clue per key idea. Students can play on their own or in teams.
  • Team building: a themed race that gets a group talking while they search the rooms.
  • Seasonal sessions: use the Halloween or Christmas concept for an end-of-term or end-of-year review.

Escape Room vs. a quiz

Both use multiple-choice questions, but a quiz is scored: points for speed and accuracy, and a leaderboard. Escape Room has no points. Players are ranked by how fast they escape, and wrong answers cost time rather than score. For graded questions, use a Pick Answer slide instead.

Frequently asked questions

Does Escape Room use points or a leaderboard?

No. Players are ranked by escape time, and anyone still inside when the round ends is listed as trapped.

Can players work together as a team?

The slide follows the presentation’s Play as teams setting, and Play mode shows Solo or Team to match.

Can I use my own images for the rooms?

Yes. On Classic you add your own image to every room. If you switch to another concept after adding your own images, choose Keep mine to keep them instead of the concept art.

Can I run the same Escape Room again?

Yes. Use Reset results to clear the last round, then present the slide again. Have a question?
